Rotary Moment: Bob Powers
Polio or infantile paralysis is a crippling and potentially infectious disease which can spread from person to person. In 1988 there were approximately 350000 cases of polio and in 2016 37. With the introduction of the salk vaccine in 1955, we started to see a drop in cases. Although few realize this Rotary was the first organization to begin working to eradicate polio. Since that time Rotary has worked with other organizations and in particular The Gates Foundation to bring an end to polio around the globe. Don't forget the  7th Annual Yvette M. Palmer Purple Pinkie 5K Run/Fun Walk to be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Schnecksville, PA. For every $1 raised at this event, the Gates Foundation will match with $2 in donations, thus tripling the donation.  We are on the cusp of a polio free world, but we aren’t there yet.
